Oilwell Tool - Hydrualic Set Permanent Packer

As an intern at Halliburton I learned a lot about working as a mechanical engineer. It requires a great deal of collaboration, creative problem solving, industry expertise, and willigness to get your hands dirty. I shadowed the development team for high performance packers who were responsible for designing and developing cutting edge completion tools for the most extreme environments. As wells are drilled deeper each year, the stress on these mechanical devices increases as the temperature and pressure increases. The environment is fast paced and very demanding. The group is responsible for designing, testing, and manufacturing new packers. I solved an issue regarding a test failure by creating a model to determine the stresses experienced during the test, theorizing failure modes, and proposing a test redesign.
